Alumni of the Internship Connection Program describe what the direct support actually did for them - including one who says that without it he would have given up by October.
Thank you do you think that the direct support from the ICP program allows you to actually land that internship yes yes yes yes I I honestly believe that without the ICP I would have probably gave up by October my name is kervin and I’m a computer science Junior at Queens College in New York City thank you yeah I’m Gabby I’m about to graduate I studied Computer Engineering and then I’m going to go into all tricks now as an application security engineer CodePath provided me that Avenue tooth okay this is what you have to do like you have to do like you have to apply to X number of jobs every week you have to make a connection with a recruiter because it’s not just about getting your resume you know on a huge pile like make that personal connection so that they can actually take your new resume out of the pile and put a face to the name and just that consistency was huge and then also because they had made connections with other companies I had talked to not just all tricks but several other companies that were like I guess sponsors and so just that was also really big as well because I’d never talked to a recruiter before and realizing that it’s just a human conversation was a huge confidence boost that’s what helped me the ICP program is what helped me dive like slowly into the internship process because as soon as the program started you know just my period that I was talking to in the program we were all in the same boat but the biggest thing I say is just a big confidence boost because I had people who looked like me who had more similar experiences to me telling me that it was going to be okay whereas like I thought that for a while I thought Tech wasn’t for me and every every every single week that we met with the little recruiter not only we learn of the company and what their process is like they were really helpful like I connected with a lot of recruiters that I’m still in touch with now to this day for the next cycle and then also just that technical interview help was really crucial because I didn’t know where to start and so they gave y’all gave me a like kind of like a set of things to do where it’s like okay you you buy this book you do these problems on link code you know rinse and repeat get your mock interviews and I didn’t know that before the Iowa’s course take advantage of the networking the coaching you know more courses like the software engineer intro the software engineering course and you know now it’s like a big family look forward to meeting every Monday it became a thing that once it stopped I was like man like I missed this it’s just meeting everyone it was like the safe space I think that it’s important to find that group of people that really lift you up because there’s so many people who who just want to see you fail especially when they when they know that they don’t look that you don’t look like them the worst thing that can happen is you don’t get anything and try again but at least you know what the whole process is like foreign
