Week 3: Selling Yourself

Hey and welcome to part four of the career center launch series my name is Daniel I’m a manager of student programs and today I’ll be taking you through selling yourself in other words personal pitching and how to use LinkedIn to network my first tip for you is to start off with your profile fill out your profile with any important keywords so you show up in the right searches make sure your headline is catchy and personal and includes any communities you might be frequently connecting with like code paath or your University next build out your network with customized connection requests focus on who you might want to connect with such as alumni staff or anyone that you interact with professionally each professional interaction should get a gratitude connection request once you’ve built up your connections don’t forget to keep them up to date on what’s going on for you landed a new opportunity completed a new certification make a post and don’t forget to celebrate with others as well check out our career kit resources on LinkedIn and networking for more great tips and tricks my final tip for you today is when connecting in person have a compelling story or elevator pitch much like an entrepreneur would your personal pitch is geared towards convincing others to invest in you a great pitch not only showcases your personality but it shares your story all while making sure that it answers the important wise why computer science why are you interested in this opportunity or why do you want to connect with this person we’ve got an awesome resource that can help you craft and tailor your pitch so make sure to check that out as well thanks for tuning in and feel free to ping me on slack if you have any questions bye
