Week 2: Resumes, LinkedIn, Personal Branding

Hey y’all welcome to part three of the career center launch series my name is Catalina and I’m one of the career coaches here at CodePath I’m so excited to walk you through resumes LinkedIn and personal branding so it is so important that you get this right because it is the foundation of how other people see you right and I don’t want to put pressure on you and say okay you have to get it like exactly correct but what I mean about by that is like don’t be afraid to really show all the things that you’ve done even if you feel like you don’t have a lot of experience because a lot of people when they get started they don’t have a lot of experience but if you talk about it in a way that really shows impact then it’s going to be really good right so you want to focus on using the XYZ method where X is what you did Y is why it matter how you did it and Z is why it matters right and so with that you’re able to Showcase okay like I did something this is how I did it and this is the impact and then you know you’re really able to to show why it was so valuable to have you there it’s really good to have numbers or it’s really good to have like just a ballpark of like okay what what was the impact of this on the company you can think about it that way or what if I wasn’t here what would have happened if I wasn’t here or what would have not happen if I was here right if I wasn’t here and so you know we want to go then to LinkedIn right so we got the resume we were talking the XYZ we’re talking about what how and why now we want to go to LinkedIn and really talk about okay what do I want to do to stand out who do I want to be as a corporate person right and so you want to really talk about and and think about okay what is it that could really help me be more authentic to me in my career right and we can do all of this in a coaching session you can come and be like hey like I don’t know about my personal brand and we can go through that we also have group sessions where we actually go through your resume and your LinkedIn and we also have async resume reviews available so you can you know really pick the way that you want to get supported we also have a resume checklist you can go through as well as a LinkedIn checklist so there’s a lot that is happening also we’re we didn’t talk about it too much but GitHub is also so on here too we have a GitHub checklist you can actually get your GitHub reviewed so there’s a lot of things that that we have available and we’re so excited to offer that to you because we want to be the foundation of support that you need as you walk through this like job search Journey right so we’re so excited to have you part of the CodePath family please don’t hesitate to slack if you have any questions you can slack me or the rest of the CodePath team thank you so much for watching and thank you so much for being part of the CodePath family
